Design as Activism – Ideas Moving Forward

Today I met up with Finley to discuss what our collective design would be. He suggested we go for a Scandinavian design with a playful look and block colours. I thought it would really suit the rainbow colour scheme we chose and my block shading illustration style. Finley really liked my idea of using a ‘magical girl’ style elements, using the cute but powerful stances that is so iconic of the genre. To link into the rainbow colours we’re going to be using colour on colour text boxes to keep that playful aesthetic which will be more interesting to kids. We’re going to make these cubic shapes to fill in backgrounds, these will show that you don’t need to fit into a box but also will bring in more colour to the designs. Lastly Finely and I chose a font that fits the Scandinavian look, the font is blocked but smooth enough to be child friendly. I’m really excited about where our project is going, it should be fun and playful but also educational. We each have our own items to create over christmas but will keep each other up-to-date on the collective look.
