Our second workshop of the day after the free machine embroidery was the heat printing. I had never done this way of printing before and it was a really helpful learning experience. We needed to paint our designs onto paper and then sandwich that between fabric and clean paper in a heat press. The paper had to be clean otherwise dirt could effect the print. This happened on my first go, it was a tad annoying but I soon learnt to use clean paper each time. I experimented with different images that represented home to me, such as keys, circles and barbed wire. They made quite interesting looks, I liked the fact I could layer them to create different patterns. Its a very playful method that I had a lot of fun with. Although I enjoyed how it looked I wasn’t sure if this was where I wanted my design to go. I preferably want lots of detail and control which I don’t have with this method. Im not the best painter so conveying my ideas is harder this way. Its fun and experimental technique which I’m sure would be perfect for a different brief for a more free story unlike mine.
